Consciousness:

What is consciousness??????

Scientifically speaking what the brain interprets what we sense out thers, and is made aware to us [our false self] is called consciousness.

In Pali,
consciousness is called Vinnana, Citta etc.

In my opinion the Pali word for Vinnana, Citts, is a mixture of what i call the Brain mind and the Mind mind.

Consciousness in my lexicon of words belongs to the Brian mind, the consciousness
that i understand is the consciousness, the number five of the five Khandhas,

The first of the five Khandhas is the
1) Body, the others four are the functions of the Brian mind and they are:
2) Perception
3) Feelings
4) Sankharas or Dharma formations or just Brian mind involvement stirring up a lot of emotions of the past stored in the mind as the brain mind goes about to interpret the sense before it is brought to us as consiousness
5) Consciousness.

Scientifically speaking there is Eye consciousness when the rays of light from the object we are seeing impinge on the eyes.

The eyes then send those rays of light stimulus through the optic nerves across the brain from the eyes sockets to the occiplital lobe which is located in the rare of the brain.

As the impulse travels trhough the brain it also stilmulates the LIMBIC SYSTEMS
of the brain which is responsible for all the emotions we feel, and the emotions
we have felt in th past.

So the light stimuls as it travels the brain stirs up emotions, present and past, that will arise together with the econsciousness of the sight of the object we are seeing.
[a good meditators will see the arising of these which are called CITASEKAS
or mental facotrs]

In the occipital lobe of the brain the light rays are interpreted as the object seen.

But in additiont to the object seen the brain adds on it's own interpretation
of the object as
- perception
- feelings
- associated emotions of the object due to past experiences.

Therefore, in the ordinary person the percetion of the sight is fabriucated by the brain due to the past.

In a advanced meditator the sight seen is not adulterated nor fabricated and there is only the seeing.

It is most important to see things only as seeing so there is no involvement of the brain mind and thus no fabrication and this is the function of the Mind mind which sees things AS IT IS.
