Mind [mind] and brain [mind]

lBuddhist Psychology describes and attempts to explain human consciousness.
lBuddhist psychology has begun to examine the relationship between consciousness and the
brain or
nervous system.
lIt is still not clear how these interact:
does Buddhist consciousness determine brain states or do brain states determine Buddhist consciousness - or are both going on in various ways?
lIs
consciousness some sort of complicated 'illusion' like the Buddhists say
and doe it bear no direct relationship to neural processes?
lHow do we define "
consciousness" and "brain state“?

Humanistic Buddhist Psychology:

lHumanistic Buddhist psychology focuses on each individualʼs potential and stresses the importance of growth and self-actualization.
lThe fundamental belief of Humanistic Buddhist Psychology is that people are innately good, with mental and social problems resulting from learning how to survive in the human world which obscures the innate good that humans are born with.

Cognitive Buddhist Psychology:

lThe study of the mental function as stated in the Pali canon of Buddhism can be viewed as the study of
information processing by the Brain mind.
lThis, combined with a scientific approach to studying the Brian mind, as well as a belief in internal mental states within it, gives rise to the
cognitivism as a model of the mind in Cognitive Buddhist Psychology.
lCognitive Buddhist psychology is radically different from previous psychological perspectives in two key ways.
lIt not only accepts the use of the scientific method, but alos as a rule encourages introspection via meditation as a valid method of investigation of the information processing of the Brain mind
lIt explicitly acknowledges the existence of internal mental states (such as belief, desire and motivation) and existence of which can be proven both subjectively and objectively.

l
Cognitive Buddhist Psychology
is the study of human thought processes and cognitions.
lCognitive Buddhist psychologists study topics such as attention, memory, perception, decision-making, problem solving etc.
lApplied Cognitive Buddhist psychologists use the knowledge of Buddhism to treat and help patients with behavioral and emotional and personality problems.
